RAAMP: 160km Rural Roads for asphalt, 250km for total overhauling in Kwara.

A total number of 160 kilometers of rural roads in Kwara State would be upgraded to the asphalt level under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP).

Similarly, about 250 kilometers of rural roads would be totally overhauled across the state. 
The representative of the National Coordinator, Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), Engineer Bukar Gana disclosed this in Ilorin on Wednesday while speaking at a meeting with management of Kwara State Ministry of Works and Transport during a stakeholders meeting in the state.
Engr. Bukar who led the RAAMP Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) to the state, noted that the aim of RAAMP is to ensure good and accessible road along rural areas with a view to creating employment opportunities for thousands of Nigerians and ensuring easy transportation of farm produce to cities.
According to Engr. Bukar, about 160 kilometers of rural roads have been identified in the state for asphalt work while about 250 kilometers are going to receive total rehabilitation and overhauling.

He assured the total collaboration between the agency and the state saying efforts are on top gear to have data of every roads in the country.
Also speaking, a Consultant, under the RAAMP Federal Project Management Unit, Mr. Maysam Abedin said a lot of things need to be reformed to ensure international standard, adding that, majority of the rural road in the state have been captureed for accessibility and easy movement for road users.

In his welcome address, the RAAMP State Project Coordinator, Engr. Akorede Abdulwahab Agboola commended the Governor Abdulraham Abdulrasaq led government for investing more on rural roads and other infrastructural development projects across the state.
In his remarks, the Kwara State Honourable Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr Rotimi Iliasu said plans are under way to fix all damaged roads across the state, as the state government was ready to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure that all roads are motorable for the masses.
The Commissioner further noted that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Abdulraham Abdulrasaq would continue to embark on measure that would safeguard the lives of Kwarans irrespective of religion or political affiliation.
According to him, plans are on to have data base of all road users including Okada Riders, Keke Napep, Buses, Taxi among others users, saying this would ensure security of lives and properties across the state.
He said the state government was very ready to key into RAAMP scheme so as to address infrastructural deficit especially at the rural level, adding that government would put necessary mechanism and legislative framework in place to enjoy the scheme. 

Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) is a joint project between the Federal Government and the World Bank designed to address the problem infrastructural deficit at the rural levels through the payment of counterpart funds by the state government.
To this effect, His Excellency, Governor AbdulRaman Abdulrazaq has so far released a sum of 600 million naira as counterpart fund for RAAMP to kick off in the State.

Stakeholders visited includes, Kwara State Ministry of Works, Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Finance, Planning, Agriculture, Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, State House of Assembly, Chambers of Commerce, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Chairman, Farmers Associations, Nigeria Soceity of Engineers (NSE) NURTW, RTEAN and others
