RAAMP INTERFACES WITH RELEVANT STAKEHOLDERS IN KWARA: COMMENDS GOVERNOR ABDULRAMAN ABDULRAZAQ'S SUPPORT
The Kwara State Government has commenced plans to fix all rural roads across the State to ensure accessible roads for residents in Kwara State.
The State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Iliasu Rotimi Suleiman stated this during a Stakeholders meeting with the national body of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP) who visited the State on an official assignment.
Mr. Rotimi said Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq-led administration will continue to embark on measures that would safeguard the lives of the people of the State.
According to him, plans are on to have data base of all road users, including Okada Riders, Keke Napep, Buses, Taxi among others users, saying this would ensure security of lives and property across the State.
In his welcome address, the State RAAMP Project Coordinator, Engr. Akorede Abdulwahab Agboola, thanked the RAAMP Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) Team for its visit to the State, as he also commended the Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq-led administration for investing more on rural roads and other infrastructural development projects across the State.
While speaking, the representative of the National RAAMP Project Coordinator, Bukar Gana, revealed that the Team was in the State on Road Sector Reforms Advisory Service to support the 13 participating States in conducting the institutional reforms that can help to draft Rural Access Road Authority and State Road Fund Bills as well as produce a refined road classification system.
Bukar noted that about one hundred and sixty kilometers have been identified in the State for asphalt work while about two hundred kilometers are going to receive total rehabilitation.
Furthermore, a Consultant engaged by the RAAMP Federal Project Management Unit, Mr Maysam Abedin stressed the need to reform many things in order to ensure international standard, adding that majority of the rural roads in the State have been captured for accessibility and easy movement for road users.
It will be recalled that His Excellency, Governor AbdulRaman Abdulrazaq has so far released a sum of 600 million naira as counterpart fund for RAAMP to kick off in the State.
Stakeholders visited include: Kwara State Ministry of Works, Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency, Ministries of Justice, Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Development, and Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, State House of Assembly, Chambers of Commerce, Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Farmers Associations, Nigeria Soceity of Engineers (NSE) NURTW, RTEAN and others.
