Gov A.A. made it happen as World Bank ranks Kwara best in Nigeria in RAAMP's counterpart payment, overall disbursement.
Kwara state has been ranked the overall best in counterpart payment and overll disbursement. The ranking was announced on Monday in Abuja at the 8th Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), implementation support mission, held at Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Center Abuja which assesses the progress of all the states as part of the preparation for the new year.
This attainment, no doubt, shows how committed His Excellency Mallam AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq CON and Chairman Nigerian Governors Forum has been to the cause of equitable development as it further confirmed his efforts the development of Kwara
Going further, on Monday, 21st October, 2024, Governor Abdulrahman officially flagged off the construction, rehabilitation, and upgrade of rural roads totalling 209.77km in the state. The event was well attended by relevant stakeholders both within and outside the state as the upgrade of rural roads is about 209.77km connecting the 16 local government areas is the fruit of huge investment, strategic planning, commitments to rural urban development and food security. It is a strong drive for rapid socioeconomic growth and sustainable job opportunities
Meanwhile, awards across different categories were given, and Kwara won two categories in which it won the overall best in counterpart funding among the 19 participating states, a confirmation of the fact that no state paid more counterpart funding to the programme than Kwara amongst the participating states.
Also, Kwara state RAAMP won the award for overall disbursement, which means no state among the 13 states in our category drew more funds than Kwara from the World Bank and French Development Bank. The evidence for this abounds as construction works are ongoing on 209.77km roads across the state.
For these roads to therefore, stand the test of time through quality maintenance, the Governor has signed the Rural Access Road Agency (RARA) and State Road Fund (SRF) bills into law and approved the immediate constitution of the Boards of the Agency as well.
It would be recalled that RAAMP was formally declared effective on March 16 2021 which was co financed by the World Bank, with the aim of improving Rural Access and Trading Infrastructure, in participating states, and had since received counterpart fund of N4billion from the state government.
On the assumption of office in 2019, the governor had immediately paid the first tranche of the counterpart fund. Between 2019 and now, the government has paid the sum of four billion, twenty-six million, eight hundred, and ninety-one thousand Naira (N4,026,891,000) as counterpart fund, which was not paid by the previous government.
Currently, Kwara RAAMP had advertised the construction of three Agro-logistics Centres, to be upgraded to international standards, one in each senatorial district of Ajase-Ipo, Alapa and Kaiama, as well as other rural roads, spreading to other LGAs in the state.
The Implementation Support Mission which is a World Bank annual convergence, provides opportunities to discuss project progress reports of all participanting states, discuss challenges and fashion out way forward as the mission was attended by the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engr. Abdulquawiy Olododo, the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammed Mao, the Project Coordinator, Engr Dr Isaac KoloKwara RAAMP State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU) officials.
