Every human being craves respect, recognition and relevance, and if they are so deserving, they should be so honoured in our society. However, the emphasis should be truly on service, honour, values and on the basis of selfless service to humanity.
The criteria, one believe should include consistence and meaningful participation in community development, rendering unsolicited, selfless and philanthropic services to humanity, outstanding sacrifice in the defence of a cause popularly adjudged to be positive, relevant and beneficial to the society at large.
It turned out to be a gathering of who is who, as Comrade Olaitan Adefila, a retired Permanent Secretary in the civil service of Kwara State was honored by the Man O' War Nigeria North Central Regional Command for his outstanding contributions towards Humanitarian Services and as the Chairman of Patron, North Central Regional Command, held at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, Ilorin.
But for many, the vast experience and immense contributions of Comrade Olaitan Adefila in the public space not only accounted for the Award with which he was honoured. This also accompanied his progressive and brilliant mind which substantially prepared him for the moment.
In retrospect, the exemplary work of Comrade Adefila during his days in the public service no doubt earned him the respect of the Man O' War and many other reputable organizations in the society. Adefila, aside being one of the most senior and experienced retired Permanent Secretary in Kwara, is also a progressive and brilliant mind.
Being a man admired and respected by many, those who are privileged to have worked under his leadership or encounter him in one way or the other, for which this medium can also confirm to esteem readers, the key to the successes Adefila achieved looking back, was based on the fact that he was able to build a working culture that has no place for the lazy type. This has engendered robust debate and the interrogation of ideas within the system which made his marks not only indelible, but obvious on the sands of time.
Today, we celebrate his dignity and strong strength of character by conferring this honours on him. He is a shining example to our younger generation. We congratulate other the recipients too. This obligation is one of leadership, more work and the provision of inspiration to others. The task of building a strong society is obviously a continuous and collective effort. It is continuous because it is a never-ending process that needs increasing energies irrespective of the level of development that has been attained.
From the onset, Comrade Adefila is the type that always appeared determined to work, converse and engage with smartest people that can add value to humanity just like himself. Today, he has motivated and turned them into champions of his visionary agenda. This made him a man from whom members of my generation keeps learning.
At the Award giving event, the Kwara State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi was also there where he made a plea on the need why Nigerians, particularly Kwarans should continue to contribute and partner with security agencies to ensure security of lives and properties.
Also speaking at event, the Man 'O War, Regional Commandant, Comrade M.J Ali-Baba, commended security operatives for their effort towards securing the lives of the masses for which he called on the people of Kwara State to always give relevant information to security agencies.
Meanwhile, the Awardee himself, Comrade Olaitan Adefila, while appreciating the group for the gesture of sounding him out, called on governments at all level to continue to partner with relevant stakeholders irrespective of religion, ethnic or political affiliation in addressing security challenges in the county. With this, he assured our society will grow.
That Adefila, an asset to humanity and an illustrious son of Ijare Isin land, could be singled out for this hour means he chose to live his life in such away that puts no one in doubt that, power is transient, while position is precarious. His achievements while in the public service are indelible and they are signposts of a paradigm shift in the perception of the public sector in our clime. He has through prudence and profound vision accomplished a lot. He leaves behind an impressive record of service that will remain a reference point and a marker for many to follow and learn.
As it is, the likes of Adefila are no doubt in short demand in our today's society.
Congratulations therefore to Comrade Adefila, his friends, fellow comrades, family members and other well wishers on this worthy addition to his already rich profile.
