Kwara NIPR Harps on Professionalism Among Members.

The newly constituted Governing Council of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations(NIPR) has been urged to initiate a Bill to the National Assembly for change of the nomenclature of Public Relations Practitioners working in government owned Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and public institutions, to enhance their effectiveness.

This much was confirmed as currently, they are being addressed as Information Officers in both the Federal and State Civil Service.

A fellow of NIPR and  veteran Media Practitioner, Alh Saadu Salahu made the call in Ilorin during the monthly Public Relations Lecture of Kwara State Chapter of the NIPR in a paper titled "Post Retirement PR Practice :Prospects and Challenges".

Alhaji Salahu who was the Special Adviser to the Governor on Strategy, insisted that it is high time the nomenclature is changed, pointing out that Public Relations is a top management function, which should be accorded it's rightful position to further enhance it's image and performance.

He described Public Relations as planned and deliberate efforts aimed at building and maintaining relationships with the public, using a four-step process of research, action, communication, and evaluation.

Alhaji Salaudeen enumerated some of the challenges that confront public relations practitioners and enjoined them, to always take their health serious to live a healthy life.

While presiding over the lecture, a former Commissioner for Information in the state and a fellow of the Institute, Alhaji Raheem Adedoyin, enjoined Public Relations Practitioners to always seek for more knowledge, to make them effective on the profession.

Earlier in his welcome address, the acting chairman of NIPR in the state, Mr Gbenga Ishola, restated the commitment of the chapter in refreshing the memories of the practitioners for better performance.

Diginitaries that the graced the colourful event are but not limited to a former Commissioner for Information in the state and fellow of NIPR, Alh Raheem Adedoyin, the General Manager Kwara State Television Authority Alhaji, Ayobami Akanbi, a veteran Broadcaster, Hajia Jumoke Silifat Adeyemi.

Others are the Chairman, NUJ Kwara State Council, Abdulateef Lanre Ahmed, the Chairman of Arewa Consultatives Forum (ACF) in Kwara, Dr Mohammed Ghali Alaaya, former Special Adviser on Political Communications, Alh Bashiru Adigun, Senior Special Assistant on Religion (Islam), Alh Ibrahim Danmaigoro and others.
