Governor AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq's led administration has been commended for its modest policies and sustainable partnerships with developmental agencies worldwide, with a view to bringing more meaningful developmental projects to the people of the state, particularly those at the rural areas, where more rural roads are being constructed for a sustainable economy in the state.

The State Project Coordinator, Rural Access and Agriculturally to Marketing Project (RAAMP), Engr. Dr. Isaac Kolo, gave this commendation in Ilorin while fielding questions from the press on analysis of the length of jobs done so far by the agency since inception.

According to him, the six years programme was formally declared effective on March 16 2021 which was co financed by the World Bank, with the aim of improving Rural Access and Trading Infrastructure, in participating states, and had since received counterpart fund of N4billion from the state government.

"On assumption of office in 2019, the Governor had immediately paid the first tranche of the counterpart fund. Between 2019 and now, the government has paid the sum of four billion, twenty-six million, eight hundred, and ninety-one thousand Naira (N4,026,891,000) as counterpart fund, which was not paid by the previous government", he disclosed.

When asked about the agro logistics aspect of the project, Dr. Kolo explained that "the agro-logistics component of RAAMP presents crucial steps towards strengthening the agricultural sector, empowering farmers, boosting food security and promoting economic growth".

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq led administration had constructed Gbugbu International Produce Market in Edu LGA in recognition of agriculture as the nerves centre of Kwara economy and the need to improve the value chain, among other investments.

The agency had advertised the construction of three Agro-logistics Centres, to be upgraded to international standards, one in each senatorial district of Ajase-Ipo, Alapa and Kaiama, as well as other rural roads, spreading to other LGAs.

"On Monday, 21st October, 2024, Kwara RAAMP flagged off the construction, rehabilitation, and upgrade of rural roads totalling 209.77km. The event was well attended by relevant stakeholders both within and outside the state as the  upgrade of rural roads is about 209.77km connecting the 16 local government areas is the fruit of huge investment, strategic planning, commitments to rural urban development and food security. It is a strong drive for rapid socioeconomic growth and sustainable job opportunities", he added.

He stressed further that, the first phase of the road projects already under construction would be executed in phases and had begun with the first phase under Backlog Maintenance/Rehabilitation of rural roads of 66.5 Km in Asa, Ilorin West/East, Oyun and Edu Local Government Areas of the State.

"Others are Mondala-Yowere-Agbonna 12.485 Km; Gerewu-Eiyekorin-Okolowo Express 3.069 Km; Panada-Oloro, 5.428 Km; Inaja-Alaro-Inaja maliki, 6.215 Km, Ijagbo-Aperun-Adeleke-Igbawere 6.85 Km; Kpandarako-Ginda-Kusomunu-Kachitako, Tsakpata Lealea-Gulufu-Bacita, 22.89 Km; and Lafiagi-Effagi-Putata Road, 9.525 Km; totaling 66.46 Km. Meanwhile, the upgrading of rural roads of 18.2Km in Asa Local Government, Alapa–Hoko 0.7 Km, Madi–Peeke 17.5 Km, totalling 18.2km altogether"

Dr. Kolo explained further that "for these roads to stand the test of time through quality maintenance, the Governor has signed the Rural Access Road Agency (RARA) and State Road Fund (SRF) bills into law and approved the immediate constitution of the Boards of the Agency as well.

"The state government entered into a modest collaboration with the World Bank to make life meaningful to its people and ensure that nobody's future is mortgaged as a result of implementing the project in the state", he added.

The RAAMP Coordinator in the state noted that the benefiting communities cut across the three senatorial districts of the state in which they have been also sensitised to take ownership of the projects at their domain by participating fully and avoid any acts that would trigger any social issues as a result of which might affect the complete implementation of the project in their communities.

He described Governor AbdulRazaq as a focused, determined and result oriented leader, who gets things done for the betterment of Kwarans, irrespective of religion or political affiliations, adding that, it is important for Kwarans, both at home and in the diaspora to key into the vision of the Governor, which is set to do more to further put Kwara at the forefront where it belongs.

Dr. Kolo, therefore, urged the people of the state to reciprocate Governor  AbdulRazaq's kind gesture by creating an enabling environment through meaningful partnership with developmental agencies to bring development to rural dwellers in the state.
