Human Trafficking: Emir of Yashikira commends Kwara State Government, as Taskforce trains 40 personnel of the security agencies and social workers.

The Kwara State Government has been commended for its proactiveness in safeguarding the lives and property of it citizens at all times irrespective of religion or political affiliations.
The Emir of Yashikira, in Baruten local government area of the state, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Usman Sabi KPASSI II, stated this during a day training, organised for security personnel and other social workers by the Kwara State Taskforce on Human Trafficking. 
The Emir who described the training as a timely intervention aimed at eradicating human trafficking in the state and it environ, also commended the taskforce team for deeming it fit to organising such a meaningful engagement that brought together concerned stakeholders. 
With its theme, "Prevention, Protection and Assistance to Victims", relevant law enforcement officers and other social workers were engaged on a one-day training focusing on curbing the prevalence of human trafficking and effective reporting channels in the state.
While formally declaring open the training, the Executive Chairman, Baruten local government, Alhaji Issa Jibril noted that the training, meant to educate the public on the dangers of human trafficking and strengthen our borders from being porous came at the appropriate time, especially looking at the prevalence of such acts. 
The Chairman, represented by the HoD Education and Social Services (ESS), Mallam Jibril Masine, thanked the state government for having the local government in mind and sought for more collaboration with other relevant stakeholders and security agencies to cub the menace. 
Earlier, the State Taskforce Chairman, who is also the Honourable Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Senior Ibrahim Sulyman noted that the move is part of the state government's efforts under the leadership of His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, to ensure the safety of both Kwarans and our borders.
Barr. Sulyman, who was represented by the secretary of the taskforce committee, Barr. Funke Balogun further noted that the choice of Baruten local government was considered being a border community and a hot-spot for trafficking which also informed the taskforce's decision for a strategic selection of location. 
According to him, "human trafficking is not only a crime, it is also a grave violation of human rights. It strips individuals of their freedom, dignity, and future. Whether it takes the form of forced labour, see exploitation, or the trafficking of children and women, it thrives in the shadows of ignorance, poverty, and weak systems."
The Chairman reiterated that the training is another eye-opener on the state government's efforts and collaboration as he called on relevant agencies expected who attended the training to make use of the knowledge acquired during and after the training for the benefit of humanity. Adding that the event, sponsored by the Kwara State Government, is to ensure that the Trafficking in Persons laws are disseminated among the community for their safety to avoid being victims of this modern slavery.
Barr. Sulyman, therefore, expressed his appreciation to the His Excellency Mallam AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq CON and the Chairman Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) for his results driven administration, especially, for the support and proactive interventions at all times to keep Kwara safe.

The training was well attended by security agencies of different organisations such as the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Immigration Sevice (NIS), Nigeria Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Vigilantes, Social Workersers, Technical Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Empowment, Hon. Abdulmumini Kane Habibat and other local government officials, in which the training afeatured presentations by Kwara State Taskforce on Human Trafficking facilitators, starting with the State NAPTIP Commender, Alhaji Mustapha Sa'ad, State Coordinator, Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour. Mr. Olufemi Oyedeji and Secretary STF Barrister Funke Balogun.
It also featured setting up a comunque committee, questions and answers, as well as contributions and observations from participants.
